There are 5 types of appointments available at the surgery:
1) Routine Appointments
These can be made with any doctor in advance. It is easier to get an appointment at a time of your choice and with a doctor of your choice when you book ahead for routine matters.
2) On the Day Appointments
Each doctor will have a set number of ‘on the day’ appointments available each day (mostly in the morning but there are also a couple each afternoon). You are advised to call as close to 08:45 as possible and you will have the option of which doctor you wish to see (as long as they still have an ‘on the day’ slot available). Doctors will naturally each only have a finite number of spaces available every day so there is no guarantee that you will get an appointment of your choice that day.
3) Telephone Appointments
You can book a telephone appointment in the same way as a routine appointment and the doctor will phone you as near as possible to the time booked. This is useful when you don't need to be examined, especially for longer term follow up of conditions, or to discuss test results, etc.
4) Early Morning Appointments
On Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, we have routine appointments between 07:30 – 08:00. These are pre-bookable appointments that are provided particularly with full time workers in mind and we would respectfully ask that they are requested only by those patients for whom they were specifically introduced.
5) Urgent Appointments
We have urgent slots each day to allow for problems that you feel must be attended to THAT DAY and could not wait for the first available routine or on the day appointment. These are shorter appointments and are only with doctors who are available that day i.e. you cannot choose or request to see a particular doctor.
Please ensure you keep the surgery updated with your mobile number as we will send you a confirmation and reminder text about your appointments. We will also utilise this facility to notify you of Bank Holiday closures and specific information about the Practice. If you do not wish to be notified in this way, please advise staff at reception.
Occasionally, medical students from Glasgow University attend the surgery as part of their undergraduate training. If the doctor you are seeing has a student with them, you will be advised when you attend your appointment and if you do not want them present at your consultation, your wishes will be respected.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
A CHANGE TO HOW WE MANAGE APPOINTMENTS AT THE SURGERY
As you will be very much aware, the demand for GP appointments is increasing steadily to a point where it is putting a distinct strain on the service we aim to provide at the surgery.
Most people do not realise that there are other professionals who are better placed to deal with the many symptoms for which patients attend their GP. We therefore feel it is important to ensure that we provide you with the information you need in order to make an informed choice. Often, it will allow you to see a nurse or a pharmacist far sooner than you might see a GP.
In order to assist with this, the Doctors here at the surgery have asked that the Receptionists now ask you for the reason you wish an appointment. This will allow them to advise you of any options available to you to ensure you are seen by the RIGHT person at the RIGHT time. We should be grateful if you would share this information with them and we assure you that all discussions with the receptionists are treated with the same confidentiality as those with the Doctor or Nurse.
Please also remember that we are not wishing to prevent you from seeing a Doctor (you will always have the right to do so if you choose) – we are simply trying to ensure you have a full understanding of all the services that are available to you and that appointments with the GP are made appropriately. The surgery is now giving you the opportunity to be able to book advance routine GP and Physiotherapy appointments ONLINE. You can still book 'on the day' and telephone appointments via the surgery. If you wish to register to use this service, please call in to the surgery and a member of staff will be happy to process this for you.
